Types of Mini-Split Control Boards

  • Main control board (outdoor unit) — controls the compressor, fan motor, and refrigerant valves. Most common replacement after lightning or voltage spikes.
  • Inverter module / IPM — converts DC bus voltage to variable-frequency AC for the compressor. Fails from power surges or overheating.
  • Electronic control box assembly — complete sub-assembly with board, capacitors, and terminal block, pre-assembled and ready to install.
  • Indoor control board — controls indoor fan motor, louvers, and communicates with the outdoor unit.

FAQ: Mini-Split Control Board Replacement

Does a mini split have a separate defrost control board?⌄
No. Unlike central heat pumps that use a standalone defrost control board, mini-split systems manage defrost entirely through the outdoor main control board, using temperature sensors on the outdoor coil. If defrost is not initiating, the fault is typically a faulty coil sensor or a bad outdoor main board. See our Compressors section if you suspect refrigerant loss.
My unit shows error code EC07 — is that the control board?⌄
EC07 is an outdoor fan motor speed fault. Check the outdoor fan motor and fan blade first. If both run normally at the correct speed, the outdoor control board or inverter module is the likely cause.
Can I use a board from a different model of the same brand?⌄
Only if the OEM part number matches exactly. Different unit models use different firmware and hardware revisions. An incorrect board may trigger fault codes or damage the system.
Do you ship control boards same day?⌄
Yes — in-stock boards ship the same business day on orders placed before 2 PM ET, from our Hialeah, FL warehouse. Most US destinations receive within 2–4 business days.
Do you offer wholesale pricing for contractors?⌄
Yes — HVAC contractors receive volume pricing. Contact us for terms and account setup.
