4-way reversing valve — switches refrigerant flow direction between
heating and cooling mode. Failure signs: unit stuck in one mode, refrigerant hiss bypassing the valve.
Reversing valve solenoid coil — electrical actuator for the 4-way valve.
Test the coil before replacing the valve body — the coil is significantly less expensive.
High/low pressure switch — cuts compressor power on over-pressure or
loss-of-charge. Stuck-open = continuous protection trips; stuck-closed = runs with low refrigerant.
Discharge temperature sensor — monitors compressor discharge line.
A faulty sensor triggers compressor over-temperature protection codes.
PFC reactor (line choke) — power factor correction coil on the main board
power supply. Failure can cause EMI issues or board shutdown.
Condensate pump — removes drain water when gravity drain is not possible
on wall-mounted indoor units.
How do I know if my mini split reversing valve is bad?⌄
Test the solenoid coil first — it's less expensive than the valve body.
Measure coil resistance (typically 100–400 Ω) and check for signal at the coil terminals when switching modes.
No signal = control board fault. Signal present but valve doesn't switch = coil or valve body.
Confirm a bad valve body by measuring suction and discharge pressures in both heating and cooling modes —
the pressures should swap when the mode changes.
