How to Match a Replacement Compressor

  • 1.
Read the compressor label — not the unit nameplate. You need the compressor model (e.g., KSN140D21UFZ) and OEM code (e.g., 11103020003919). The same model fits multiple brands — always confirm both numbers.
  • 2.
Or search by outdoor unit model in our Parts Finder. Every product page lists all compatible units.
  • 3.
Match the refrigerant (R410A, R32, or R454B) shown on the listing to your system nameplate. Never mix refrigerants.
  • 4.
Do not match by line voltage. The unit's 208–230V/60Hz nameplate is the system supply voltage. Inverter compressors run on variable DC from the IPM board — that number is not a compressor spec.

Compressor Capacity Quick Guide

CapacityTypical BTUCommon Use
Small9,000–12,000Bedrooms, small offices
Medium18,000Living rooms, open areas
Large24,000Large rooms, basements
Multi-zone36,000–60,000Whole-home, commercial

Match by OEM code, not BTU alone — capacity overlap between models is common.

Compressor or Control Board? Diagnose First

A failed inverter module mimics a dead compressor exactly. Before ordering, confirm with a winding-resistance test:

  • ✓
Measure resistance across all three compressor terminals (U–V, V–W, W–U). Equal low readings = good windings. An open circuit or short to ground = bad compressor.
  • ✓
Good windings with no start = fault is in the outdoor control board or inverter module.
  • ✓
Outdoor fan also dead? Check fan motors and the error code in our error codes guide.

FAQ: Mini-Split Compressor Replacement

Can you replace just the compressor on a mini split?⌄
Yes — if the coils, line set, and boards are sound, replacing only the compressor is common practice. The job requires refrigerant recovery, brazing under nitrogen, evacuation and recharge, and must be performed by an EPA Section 608-certified technician.
Will a compressor from another brand fit my unit?⌄
Often yes — many brands (MrCool, Pioneer, Senville, Carrier, Lennox, Blueridge) share the same Midea manufacturing platform. KSN140D21UFZ (OEM 11103020003919), for example, fits 18,000 BTU outdoor units from all five brands. What matters is the compressor model and OEM code, not the brand name on the cabinet.
How do I know if my mini split compressor is bad?⌄
Common signs: the outdoor fan runs but the unit blows room-temperature air; the breaker trips at start-up; or the unit shows a compressor or IPM protection fault code. A failed inverter board causes identical symptoms — always confirm with a winding-resistance test before ordering a compressor.
What is your return policy?⌄
All sales are final once shipped. We arrange an exchange or RMA for defective parts, wrong parts shipped, or dead-on-arrival units reported within 30 days — see our return & exchange policy. Confirm the OEM code before ordering, or call (786) 223-7655 for fitment help.
Do you offer contractor pricing?⌄
Yes — HVAC contractors and service companies qualify for volume pricing. Contact our sales team for details.
New compressors vs. New Take-Out OEM — what is the difference?⌄
Compressors in this category are sold new, factory-fresh. New Take-Out OEM compressors are genuine factory units removed from never-installed outdoor units before they left the warehouse — same OEM quality, lower price.
